Love this restaurant! Have been there several times and was never disapointed. The bean dip is awsome, and during the week they have 1.99 margaritas. Definately my favorite mexican restuarant in Monroe.

have eaten here three times in the last few months. food was consistently great each time. i believe its the best i've eaten in michigan; and i've eaten mexican food all over the state. beats traverse city, westland, mexicantown's, stevensville, benton harbor, ann arbor; and i could go on and on. truly the best. only complaint is the price. somewhat more that most places with few specials or money saving coupons to be found.
love the vegetarian selections. most restaurants forget there are a number of people that don't eat dead animals.

My family went there for the first time and was impressed, despite the negative reviews here. The reviews here led me to believe that it would be expensive. The majority of the menu was between $7.50 and $10.50, with the median around $8.50. While the portion wasn't huge, it was just fine. We were all full and happy. The food was excellent, on par with the other Mexican restaurants around. There was music playing lightly in the background and our waiter was attentive and friendly. The restaurant was very clean and well maintained. Everything was just great about our experience. I would highly recommend Grandes Lagos to anyone and for those that had a bad experience, I think you should give it another chance.

Had lunch there last week and also found it pricy for what you get. Also food was bland. There was music on but way too loud and annoying. Also the waiters did not seem to understand english very well, staring blankly when you asked for something etc, just a very uncomfortable atmosphere in there, we won't go back. The margerita's are way too expensive for their size too. I don't see this one lasting.

Ate here for the first time over the weekend. I thought it was a little pricey for the 2 person fajita portions that you got but the food was ok. Not a favorite but not too bad either.

We were in a couple of weekends ago to try this place and while we were not disappointed, we weren't excited about it either. I agree with the earlier review that says the place needs some music or something as the atmosphere is non-existent. The food was average and seemed a bit pricey for what you get (we paid the same price for steak fajitas that we usually pay at our usual place for steak, chicken and shrimp mixed fajitas). Probably wouldn't go there again, but never say never.

We went and were not impressed by the food or prices. I would think that if someone was going to open a Mexican restaurant so close to another one they would want the food to be competitive. It's not.

Tried this place for the first time last night. I would like the atmosphere more if they were playing some music or had tvs on. It was overall too quiet. Chips and salsa were good, but be prepared to ration the salsa being you only get a small bowl. I ordered the California burrito, which looked more like an enchilada when it came out. Food overall was somewhat bland and portion sizes were small for the price you pay. There was also a disclaimer on the menu that they will either charge you for a 2nd bowl of chips and salsa or a 3rd bowl, was not exactly clear. The waiter got my order mixed up with my buddy who went with me. Could be an honest mistake but he could not tell me the difference between the 2 plates of food even though they were obviously different.

They need to lower their prices, increase portion sizes and take away the extra chips and salsa charge on the menu. Then they might have a chance.
